About Keekorok airstrip
Keekorok is one of the longest-established airstrips inside the Maasai Mara National Reserve. It serves the southeastern part of the reserve, an area of wide grassland, acacia woodland and seasonal rivers. It is also one of the first parts of the Mara the migration herds reach as they move north from Tanzania's Serengeti.
Because the airstrip is inside the reserve, your lodge vehicle can often begin a game drive as soon as you land. Tell your camp your flight number and arrival time so the driver is waiting when the aircraft lands.
Which lodges use Keekorok?
Keekorok airstrip is closely associated with Keekorok Lodge and the camps of the southeastern reserve. Some camps in the wider southern Mara also use it. Always give reservations the full name of your lodge and ask the lodge to confirm Keekorok is its recommended airstrip, especially if your safari includes more than one camp.

Exploring the southeastern Mara from Keekorok
The country around Keekorok is open, rolling grassland broken up by acacia trees and the seasonal Sand River, which runs towards the Tanzanian border. This part of the reserve is good for big herds of plains game and the predators that follow them, and it usually has fewer vehicles than the busier river areas further west.
Many travellers combine a few nights near Keekorok with a second camp elsewhere in the Mara, such as the central reserve or the Mara Triangle, to see more variety. If you plan a multi-camp safari, tell reservations so each flight leg uses the right airstrip and your baggage allowance is the same throughout.

Keekorok in migration and peak season
Between July and October the southeastern Mara can be busy with migrating wildebeest and zebra, and lodges book up early. Herd movements change every year, so no airstrip can guarantee sightings.
